Taming Sabotaging Behaviors

Today we discussed sabotaging behaviors. Those things that show up when we are on a roll to distract us and hold us back from what we want. If you have done the Goals Report assessment located on my home page at www.StartingNowCoaching.com , there is a part in which you determined your sabotaging behavior. When I looked through the results of the reports visitors have taken over the last year and a half, this is how they have ranked.

Procrastination- the #1 sabotaging behavior by a land slide
Indecisiveness & Tolerating- tied for 2nd
Following Secondary Goals- came in 3rd
Not saying "no"- came in 4th
Others included Lack of Focus, Not Always Telling the Truth, Not Listening to Intuition, Acting as a Lone Ranger, Self Esteem/ Fear, and Controlling Life/People.

Steps to tame your sabotaging behavior(s):
1) Identify it so you can recognize it when it shows up
2) Create a plan to respond differently when it rears its ugly head
3) Carry through... take new actions for new results

Let me know if you have any thoughts on what you want to discuss next week.
December 14th will be our end of the year celebration.

Tapping into Abundance

Great call today! Sorry we got cut off when time ran out at the end. Here are
some notes for those who could not attend. Please post your experiences
as to how you are tapping into abundance this week.

"Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into." Wayne Dyer

1- There is more than enough- All you need is available to you. Looking at
your life from another perspective can help you to see abundance. What if
you were to look down at your life from above and could see all of the
resources, people, and opportunities available to you. Hard to discover while
tucked away at your desk. Remove the limitations in your life. The 6
Degrees of Separation Theory states that we are only 6 people away from
finding out anything we need to know.

2- You attract what you Focus on- What are you attracting? If you focus on
having less or what you don't have... that is the experience you create for
yourself. How can I tap into the prosperity and abundance available to me?
Those on the call shared examples of how this is working in their lives. By
documenting the evidence of it working you gain more confidence that you
can manifest what you want. Stay in a place of powerful positive thinking.
Garbage in= Garbage out. Be true to yourself.

Instead of focusing on more money. Try focusing on sharing your strength
and talents in the world. What cause are you committed to? If you feel it in
your gut, there's a good chance there is someone waiting to experience it.

3- Gratitude- Acknowledge what you have and be grateful for the abundance
(even if you have a hard time seeing it... it's there). Notice and acknowledge
the gifts adversity provides.

4- Come from a place of curiosity- Ask deeper -questions-. Be curious to the
abundance available to you. When stuck give your mind space for ideas to
manifest. This often occurs when you have been fully focused on something
then break away to do laundry, drive somewhere, or do a routine task...
suddenly the idea you've been waiting for just shows up.

"Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; Small minds
discuss people." Eleanor Roosevelt

5- Giving- You can't exchange what you don't have. But you are abundant.
You may have lots of love to share, art to share, leadership, clutter. In
giving you receive. Give in a way that is true to yourself.

"To have life more abundant, we must think in the limitless terms of
abundance." Rosweld Hitchcock

Have a great week! Don't forget to post how you are tapping into abundance
this week by clicking on Comment. We can all learn from each other. Hear you
Wednesday!

Intuition~ Using What You Already Know~ Oct. 5th, 2005 Call

An abundance of material on today's call. Great topic! It is important to note I came to the call as a student exploring this concept of intuition... and sharing what I've found.

"The more and more each is impelled by that which is intuitive, or the relying upon the soul force within, the greater, the farther, the deeper, the broader, the more constructive maybe the result."Edgar Cayce

Albert Einstein said, "the only real valuable thing is intuition."

An Intriguing Study

The Institute of Heart Math, focused on decoding the intelligence of the heart, conducted a study. They showed 26 participants 30 calm pictures (landscapes, cute animals, etc.) & 15 disturbing & emotionally stimulating pictures (car crash, bloody knife, etc.). Measures were used to investigate where & when in the brain & body intuitive information is processed. Astounding results showed participants had significant changes in heart rate variability 5-7 seconds before an emotionally disturbing picture appeared. It then sent a message to the brain. The study remarkably shows the heart is involved in the perception of future external events as well as processing and decoding intuitive information. It also found females are more attuned to intuitive information. Click here to read more about the study

Understanding Intuition

Intuition- knowing w/out knowing how you know, the human capacity to know w/out the use of rational processes or concrete information, based on an inner knowledge/truth & not on external stimulus, a natural knowing,

Problem- It competes with preconceived notions. We over rely on thinking and logic.

Benefits of intuition- Better decisions, ask better questions, in facing fear, better relationships

How do intuitive messages show up?

Kinesthetically- feelings in stomach, heart, joints, muscles, energy level, senses
Cognitively- hunch, aha!, seeing connections
Experientially- synchronistic, things fall in line, options fall away except 1, right place/ right time

1- Notice where your intuitive messages come from
2- Hone in on that part of yourself that send the message
3- Pose 'clear questions' with clear answers

How can you know when you are experiencing intuition:

Logic- Need to know why, ego, draw from tangible evidence, you think you know, your agenda

Intuition- You are in trust, intuition comes to you, caught off guard by the thought or image. When you open yourself up to the message instead of disregarding it, you open yourself up to receiving and understanding its value.

~ A knowingness
~ Things happen synchronistically (right people, right time, alignment, not coincidence)
~ There's effortlessness/ flow
~ Elation & inspiration
~ It keeps coming up until you pay attention to it and act on it

Ways to know when it is something other than intuition:

~ Intuition does not carry a sense of desperate urgency
~ If it is charged with emotion then it is not intuition
~ If it is full of effort... you keep trying to make it fit into your life
~ If it is out of integrity for you ... doesn't fit with your core values

How can you become more intuitive:

Intuition is like a muscle- it needs to be exercised to develop & will atrophy w/out use.
Self-Care is fundamental (slowing down the mind): when overwhelmed, tired, hungry, in chaos the lines of intuitive communication collapseAsk yourself how you think and feel right now?
Get out of your head and into your heart- then notice the first thing that came to mind
Being truly honest with yourself... what is the truth about this message?
What are you feeling, seeing, hearing, sensing?
Where do you feel this in your body?
What is this message trying to tell you?
Creativity, Yoga, Walk, Deep breathing, Listen to music, Meditation, Relaxing environment, Visualization
Trust your 1st thoughts, Trust your day dreams
Asking the "Right Questions"- sensory based
Speaking out loud about your intuitive sense can expand on it and draw more insight

Exercise 1:
Sit & Close Eyes, Notice your mind, how it flips, Choose to quiet your mind. Allow yourself to be there... observe the quiet... Ask- What do I trust?

Exercise 2:
1) Notice the 3 decisions you make/made- Are they intuitive or coming from logic
2) Journal when intuition or the mind kicks in, notice patterns that emerge, note results and consequences

What I want for you is to use intuition to expand your personal discovery, make better decisions, & move into a place of trust to move beyond limits in your life and business.

Lights out... Lights on

Hi Everyone~
Today I lost power for about 45 minute period of time when I should have been conducting a Moving Beyond Limits call. So what did I do? Completely tore my office apart, rearranged, dusted it up, and abracadabra... a great new feeling of openness, flow, space, and energy! I have noticed myself becoming increasingly aggravated with my work space. Since I got a new computer last Christmas I have felt invaded by the space the large monitor takes up. I also have some large reference books that I like to access easily but have recently felt them taking over my space. So in 45 minutes of down time when I would normally be on a call I tore into it and quickly found a new piece of mind. What are you tolerating that you need to delve into? It may not be as bad as you think. Cheers ~ Beth

Set Your Mind for Success- August 31, 2005

Wow... great call today!

Thanks everyone for making this a very interactive, supportive call that include a couple light bulb moments. When we come together and interact a synergy is created. Here are a few thoughts we discussed.

Since our mind controls our actions it is wise to explore what's going on with our thoughts. As with habits, do your thoughts encourage you or restrain you?

1- Be open to the idea that you were created for a grand purpose.

2- In talking with many top coaches in the country, the #1 response to the question "what is the #1 thing that holds people back from what they want?" was beliefs. Pay attention to roles you are in, labels, and beliefs that limit and no longer serve you.

3- Once you recognize what is in place you can take action to rewrite the belief. Such as "I can do everything to help others but I can't do it for me." Shift to
"I can do everything to help others so am fully capable to do it for myself." Maybe you have always been the caretaker in your family and it's time for someone else to lend a helping hand.

4- Make your enviroment a place of abundance... there is nothing lacking. You have unlimited people, resources, opportunities, and choices available to you.

5- Explore choices with out of the box thinking... try Mind Mapping.

"The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives." William James

A new belief we can integrate into our lives that rose out of the call is that we are all deserving of prosperity!

Warm regards~ Beth

Are Your Daily Habits Serving You? ~ August 24th, 2005

Hello Moving Beyond Limits Revolutionaries~

"Up to 90% of our normal behavior is based on habits." excerpt from the book The Power of Focus by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, & Les Hewitt

Seems like it makes sense for us to explore what habits we have in place and whether or not they are serving us or holding us back. This is what we did on the call Wednesday. Here are a few notes from the call.

1) Through our lives we develop habits that serve us for a period of time. Often we maintain these habits even after they no longer serve us. So it is critical to explore what daily habits are at work in your life. Which ones work for you and which are holding you back?

2) Choose habits that create the long term results you want. Choose what you want ... not what you think you should do. This helps set you up to succeed. Be specific. Choose 1-3 to work on per month to maintain focus and set yourself up to succeed. Only 1 per month will provide 16 new habits that serve you by the end of 2006.

3) What is your motivation? What will you feel and experience of maintaining this habit? How will you reward yourself? You can even use a negative stimulus. What will be the result if you maintain the habit that no longer serves you?

4) Set up a Support Structure- The Rewarding Daily Habits chart is meant to help you maintain focus on a daily basis. Studies have shown that you are more likely to take action when you have support and accountability. So you may want to connect with a buddy, coach, or use the StartingNow Blog right here to post your breakthroughs, challenges, and thoughts for others to get the support you need.

5) Keep your vision in front of you. Maintain focus for 28 days. You will miss some days... persevere... don't give up. You can go for 2 months if needed.

What I want for you is to develop daily habits that work for you to create a high quality business and life as you move beyond limits.

Hear you Wednesday!
Warm regards,Beth

Live Consciously- August 17th Call

Hi Revolutionaries~

Below are a few notes from our call on Wednesday August 17th. Step 1 to moving beyond limits is to live consciously. So how do you do that?

1) Notice when you hold yourself back through thoughts, self-talk, procrastination, etc. Pay attention to how you think and talk to yourself.

2) Get to the source- Who is the voice behind your critic (a parent, sibling, teacher, boss?). Fear is often at the base.Identify the source then take action to resolve the issue.

3) Identify sabotaging habits, beliefs, & tolerations thatrestrain you. Habits you picked up as a child may not serveyou well now. If you receive StartingNow ezine... this week'sissue will address creating new habits that uplift you. Ifnot, you can visit it out soon at http://www.StartingNowCoaching.com/_wsn/page4.htm

4) Be aware of how your thoughts, choices, & habits serve you long term. Debbie Ford's book "The Right Questions" is agreat resource and includes 10 questions to ask yourself. Here's 2: "Will this choice add to my life or rob me of myenergy?" & "Is this an act of self-love or an act of self-sabotage?"

5) Attend to the "who" vs "what". When making a life decisionmost people ask themselves what they want and then how do Iget that. Begin with the question "Who am I?" What are yourstrengths, values, passions, etc. and what can you do toleverage them to your advantage?

6) Access your intuition- that real gut feeling. Are youmaking life choices by only thinking in your head or are youalso paying attention to that deeper "knowing" within?

7) Engage in "who" you are- When you get to know what yourstrengths, values, passions, and needs are you can get needsmet, leverage strengths, enjoy what is most important to youand engage in who you are. Take the VIA Signature Strengthssurvey at no charge at http://www.authentichappiness.org/ tolearn your strengths. To identify values ask yourself... what would you want in your life if time and *money* were notan issue?

When you live consciously you will gain the ability to respond vs. react in situations. Share your experiences.. successes and challenges here on the blog so we can continue to support each other to move beyond limits.

Hear you next Wednesday!
Warm regards,Beth

The First Moving Beyond Limits Revolution call

Today I left the call with high energy.

What is this all about? We all have limits in our lives... it is our choice to move beyond those limits. The revolution began with this quote by Thomas Edison, "If we did the things we are capable of, we would astound ourselves." If you lived your life this way, how would it be different?

There was a story on www.msn.com through the Associated Press on July 8th about a 15 year old girl in Dulwich, southeastLondon who left her home sleepwalking during the night. She climbed to the top of the crane and walked across a narrow metal beam while asleep. She was rescued 2 hours after being discovered by a passer-by fast asleep 130 feet up on the arm of a crane. We would all have imagined that it was impossible, and I doubt she would have had the same success if she tried it while awake.

In talking with experts who support people to move beyond limits I have discovered over 20 ways in which we hold ourselves back. Yet the moment we make the choice to move beyond limits suddenly the abundance of the world opens up to us. Join us on Wednesdays by signing up at www.StartingNowCoaching.com and connect with other big thinkers to experience the vastness of your capabilities.

Cheers~ Beth

Hi Everyone~

This topic came out of the Starting Now Monthly Telegathering last night. How will your day be different if you live it as though you had no limitations? Put yourself out into the world in a very big way and see what changes. Notice when those self-limiting beliefs show up and re-write them to move beyond those limits. Posting your experiences here will put you in a place of support and accountability which will help you to take big actions to grow beyond limits.
You are uniquely created and capable of so much. I can't wait to hear from you. Now... get in the zone of Beyond Limits... Starting Now! Warm regards ~ Beth
